CREEPY CLASSICS presents...

MOVIE NIGHTS

Every weekend we're watching movies together...whether you're in Pennsylvania USA, or Sydney Australia. It's a throwback! Back to the days when you had the anticipation for waiting till the weekend to see the classic horror or science fiction film that was listed in the TV Guide. The plan is to watch a movie at 7:30PM on Saturday night in your own time zone. Or, if you can't Saturday night...anytime during the weekend. Then, we'll all get together and e-mail our thoughts on the film...a few paragraphs...or simply a sentence if you'd like. They after-viewing reviews appear on our Creepy Classics/Monster Bash News Page. See the latest thoughts posted by viewers ther now.

Concept submitted by Mike Adams of Cartaret, New Jeresey.

THE GIANT CLAW Reviews From the Creepy Classics Movie Night

This a beloved "bad movie." People always ask for this when I'm at conventions. The monster is simply so goofy looking. You'll note that it's fact is not shown in the movie posters. What is so striking is how serious the actors play in this. If there had been good special effects (Oh, Ray Harryhausen, we long for you while watching), this would be considered a great 1950s sci-fi. Instead it's more notorious for the nutty monster. It's made even more crazy by the seriousness of the lines that are delivered. "It's as big as a battleship!"

There's a story that sounds true...where Jeff Morrow went to see the premiere of the film....and slunk out in embarassment after seeing the monster. Apparently the actors had not seen prototypes of the monster while shooting.

A favorite personal story of mine, involving Ray Harryhausen: At the end of the 1998 Monster Bash Conference I was taking Ray and his wife Diana back to the airport. I thanked him and took him aside. Through the show I had gotten to know that he had a wicked dry sense of humor, so I gave it back to him. I said in all fan-boy seriousness, you kow Ray I didn't get to speak with you a whole lot while the show was going on, but I just wanted to say that my favorite of your movies was THE GIANT CLAW. He looked at me, got that wry-smile and then broke out laughing "THAT turkey!!! Ha!" he said. Then, he looked at me and said "THEY couldn't afford me!" We then talked about SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD and my experience of seeing it when I was only five at a matinee and how it the Cyclops and Dragon blew me away.

Now for the Giant Claw. The quality change (from watching KING KONG to this) shock threw me into the cultural hospital, it will take weeks to recover! Loved seeing Morris Ankrum, everyone´s favorite general. Cheesy, corny, cheap, but fun.

Hi Ron,
Thanksgiving is always big around our house and part of our family tradition is to watch “The Giant Claw” Thanksgiving morning while cooking the turkey. This year we’ll have a special guest serving us the turkey dinner in the form of Jeff Morrow as he graces our home welcoming family and friends and giving them a preview of the main course!
Happy Thanksgiving!
